About

Tony Bennett lived his childhood days in Derby and trained for teaching in Nottingham. He then spent 15 years teaching History and American Politics at the Royal Hospital School, Holbrook, in Suffolk. In 1989, he moved to Charterhouse, a private boarding school in Godalming, Surrey, where he taught American Politics for 20 years, becoming Under Master in 1997 and Deputy Head in 2004 until he retired in 2009.

In 2006, he married Sue (Saville) and on Tony’s retirement they moved first to Broadstone (Dorset) and then to Lymington (Hampshire). After a three-year fight with cancer, Sue went to be with her Saviour in 2021. Tony still lives in Lymington, is a member at New Milton Evangelical Free Church, and spends his time writing, preaching in local churches and walking the Sea Wall overlooking the Solent.

Since 1982, Tony has published numerous books on American Politics, including the UK’s main A-Level textbook on that subject. In 2017, he published his first Christian devotional book with Day One Publications – But God: The gospel in two words – of which a second volume appeared the following year. There followed But Now: The gospel perspective (2019) and Questions God Asks (2021), all from the same publisher.

Two volumes of his devotional commentary on the Psalms have now been published with a third volume (of four) expected either later this year, or early in 2024.
